A comical 11" x 8" watercolor titled "The Balbos". Signed lower left J.C. Sde Sanda and dated 1827. Applied paper on matt reading: At the age of 23, Disraeli was already showing those qualities which made him the uncrowned King of England. Everyone who loved the crown had to love Disraeli and "Love Me, Love My Dog" took on a new significance. The cartoon by J.C. Sde Sanda subtly hints at Disraeli's connection with the crown and the crown on the dash hound following him, plus the Hebraic Balbos is the keenest form of contemporary satire. After many vicissitudes some 75 years ago, this ironical masterpiece came into the possession of the Dahlman family. Signed "B. Dahlman". Good condition. EST. $300. - $600. |
