509 ARCHIVE OF CIVIL WAR CAPTAIN FRANK J. JONES Frank Johnston Jones was born April 22, 1838.  He served in the Army from April 19, 1861 to Nov. 6, 1864.  He belonged to the 5th and 13th Regiments of the Ohio Volunteers Infantry.  He served on the staff of Brig. General's Wm. Smith, Lovell Rousseau and Major General A. McD. McCook.  He graduated from Yale in 1859 and was an attorney later in life.  He was President of the Little Miami Railroad Co. served as Director of the Dayton & Michigan R.R. Co., National Lafayette Bank, University of Cincinnati, Cincinnati Equitable & Farmers Insurance Co.  He was trustee of Ohio Medical College, Member of Loyal Legion, G.A.R. Lincoln Club, Queen City Club and member of Board of Visitors at the Naval Academy.  His grandfather was Colonel John Johnston, a friend of Daniel Boone and Supt. of Indian Affairs under President Madison and President Harrison.  The archive includes a 6th plate tintype of Jones in uniform housed in Hayden Union case; large scrapbook which includes family papers and newspaper clippings; 1912 & 1913 letters from the White House, signed by President Taft; full 1908 Ticket to Taft Notification Ceremony, 1912 letters from the Naval Academy, 1908 letter signed by Wm. H. Taft; letter with Brady CDV of Lincoln's Secretary of War, Edwin Stanton; early 1900's Yale ephemera, plus much more.  Also an original 1862 book The Reports of Officers in Relation to Recent Battles at Pittsburg Landing with marked excerpts pertaining to F.J. Jones and newspaper clippings glued in the front pertaining to the battle of Chaplin Hills near Perrysburg where Jones was taken prisoner; and a 1946 book with excerpts pertaining to his grandfather, Col. Johnston.  A great historical grouping of a prominent Cincinnati figure. EST. $500. - $1000. Price: $632.50
