215 RARE PERIOD INLAID CHERRY SPICE CHEST Wonderful Ca. 1800 cherry spice chest with broken arch top and medallion with inscribed flower above carved arched center drawer with barber pole, inlay surrounds the interior which contains six smaller serpentine front drawers above two larger serpentine drawers, all resting on a French foot with great scalloped skirt.  Dovetailed construction and poplar secondary wood.  Older refinish with some small repairs, otherwise very good condition.  27 1/2" h x 15 1/2" w x 10 1/2" d.  From the Grace Lafferty Estate, West Union, Ohio.  EST. $5000. - $10,000.  SOLD $49,500

Dawson (British, 1895-1973) 14" x 20" watercolor and gouache on paper.  Titled "The Classeur and St. Lawrence Action".  Signed lower left "Montague Dawson".  Titled in pencil on back of watercolor and gouache.  Montague Dawson born in Chiswick, London, became perhaps the greatest painter of the sea and sailing ships of the first part of the 20th Century.  Joining the Royal Navy at the outbreak of the First World War, Dawson met Charles Napier Hemy, who had great influence on the young man's art.  Dawson exhibited at the Royal Academy and the Royal Society of Maine Artists.  His works were collected by royalty, president's and museums.  Well listed artist.  Fine condition.  EST. $3000. - $6000.  SOLD $5,225
